POSITION:             Social Worker

 

FLSA:                      Exempt Professional

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Master’s degree in Social Work and Licensure in Missouri
  2. Effective verbal and written skills
  3. Effective relationships with local and state agencies
  4. Effective organizational skills.

 

REPORTS TO:        Superintendent or designee

 

JOB GOAL:            To provide students opportunities to resolve problems and classroom behaviors that interfere with their adjustment to school and academic success.

 

Responsibility:      Working under limited supervision using standardized practices and/or methods; leading, guiding, and/or coordinating other; operating within a defined budget.  Utilization of resources from other work units may be required to perform the job’s functions.  There is a continual opportunity to impact the organization’s services.

 

ESSENTIAL PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Counsel with parents to obtain necessary background information and work toward improving conditions that reflect on schoolwork, behavior and interest.
  2. Serve as a liaison between the school and outside agencies, such as the Division of Family Services and Juvenile Court, as well as psychological and substance abuse counselors, physicians, and other professionals.
  3. Assist teachers and administrators with possible child abuse and neglect referrals and follow-up on these referrals.
  4. Help families make appropriate social agency contacts, when needed.
  5. Assist in the development of group instruction on social skills, anger management and other topics as the need is identified.
  6. Consult and collaborate with other school professionals in gathering and giving information on a case and in establishing and planning for respective roles in the modification of the student’s behavior and necessary related services.
  7. Provide parent education as an integral part of the task of helping students become more successful, to increase parents’ understanding, their constructive participation in resolving their child’s problems and their knowledge and use of appropriate resources available.
  8. Attend Student Service Team (SST), Special Education and 504 meetings to participate in multidisciplinary staffings. Facilitate meetings, as assigned. 
  9. Complete assessments, rating scales, in-depth social histories, and behavioral observations as part of the SST process, the special education evaluation process, and/or 504 evaluation process. Make recommendations to school teams based upon these assessments.
  10. Perform casework services with individual students to assist with those personal, social or emotional problems which affect their education and social progress.
  11. Make home visits for the purpose of gathering helpful information on a student’s family background, as needed.

 

OTHER PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Maintain documentation of services provided to students and families
  2. Participate in District and DFS training, and provide in-services to teachers, as needed, on these and related issues.
  3. Provide an annual program evaluation of service.
  4. Other duties as assigned by the Superintendent or designee.

 

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: 190 contract days
